For Where I Am, the Pier Arts Centre will present a programme of films and events by three artists who have all received recognition through the Glasgow Film Festival/LUX Margaret Tait Award and Residency.  Torsten Lauchmann was the first recipient of the Award in 2010 and Charlotte Prodger picked up the honour in 2015.  Florrie James spent time filming in Orkney in 2014 as part of the second Glasgow Film Festival/LUX Margaret Tait Residency. The aims of the Margaret Tait Award and Residency are to support experimental and innovative artists working within film and moving image, providing a high profile platform for them to exhibit their work and engage with a wider audience. The Margaret Tait Award & Residency are presented by Glasgow film festival in conjunction with Creative Scotland and LUX.

Where I Am screenings and events at the Pier Arts Centre are admission free.

The Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney was established in 1979 to provide a home for an important collection of British fine art donated by the author, peace activist and philanthropist Margaret Gardiner (1904 – 2005).

The Centre also curates a year round programme of changing exhibitions and events for the education and enjoyment of the general public. The Pier Arts Centre acts as a focal point for the local artistic community. It has a valuable library and archive which is accessible to the public, and runs a programme of education and outreach activities for groups of all ages.

Walk and Talk by Florrie James. A walking tour of Stromness, looking at piers and houses, and how ‘Udal’ law has helped shape the town.
7.00-8.30pm
Screening of Stoneymollan Trail Charlotte Prodger’s 2015 Margaret Tait Award film, shown alongside Margaret Tait’s film A Portrait of Ga (1952).
